The Great Depression

Wrote and preformed the song originally during the 1975 Gas Crunch, and finished 2008. Never had much audience people said it was too depressing.

It is my belief that you may want to order this work now. It could be a great collector piece and, will be greatly enhanced in value when place in a setting surrounded by future worthless stock certificates & international currencies.

PS. With no disrespect, I am a; Chinese, Buddhist, Pakistani, Hindu, Iranian, Muslim, Polish, Jewish, Christian, Mexican or, in short an Immigrant Native American, who formally did work as a pit welder at the Ford Motor Car Co. dedicating this song to the memory of Woody Guthrie and everyone who has lost their job and savings.

The Great Depression – In the key of C (I told ya)

You can read about it in the paper
You can hear about it at the bar
You can see it in the face of strangers
Somehow you know it isn’t very far

What you gonna do in the morning
What you gonna do when they take your car
And welcome to the great depression
Somehow it doesn’t seem to bother you at all

I know their starving off in China
And I know there’s nut out in Iran
But I know there laying off at Chrysler’s
And somehow, I just don’t give a dam

Chorus:
And welcome to the great depression
You can read the writing on the wall
And welcome to this grand transgression
Somehow it doesn’t seam to bother you at all

Well you can blame it on the government
Or I can blame the whole thing on myself
Ah maybe just a few guys out in Pakistan
But tomorrow night, they’re foreclosing on your house

So good luck, to all them dudes in Washington
Good-bye, to them high rollers on the coast
And adios, to the money grubbing Wall Street
If I could afford some beer, I’d give them all a toast

I’m not too sure how I’ll face another day now
I guess I’ll play the only hand I’m dealt
God knows I just can’t see any other way
And there aint no place to tighten up my belt

So tell me now, how to feed my loved ones
Hey, how I’m even gonna feed myself
And welcome to the great depression
Come along you can help me share the wealth

I hope the “Swells” really have a laugh now
I really hope they all enjoy their treat
Cause someday they’ll be going for a ride now
And there I’ll be living out on the street

Welcome all, welcome to America
The richest country of all the other gents
Come back soon, common back to America
The Mexicans are climbing back across the fence

Look out boys here comes the good ole melt down
Don’t worry cause they can always raise your tax
Steam roll, every average Joe now
Everyone in the middle class,
I mean the whole ball of wax,
And your money is not even worth the brass,
No thanks, this time, I think that I’ll just have to pass
You know I just don’t have the class,
Just kick me now, kick me hard right up in my rosy…Chorus !

Oh welcome to the great depression
