This image is somewhat strange. This image is taken from around one thousand feet up and is looking at a delta and islands that are nestled amongst the salt flats. The salt flats are this colour because the algae present in the water adjust their metabolisms to synthesise at a greater rate. This alters their colour to take on a red colour. Please note this image has not been altered at all. This is what it looks like in nature!

This is beautiful, I saw a similar pink in waters off Bruny Island Southern Tasmania recently, nowhere near as intense as this, but wonder if the cause is the same.
