the astronauts prison

there
faraway
from here
a place was
far past the glistening
stars
and even further past
the moons and black holes

a planet was cradled in the milky way
where time and happiness forever
stood still
paused like a frame from a
overly romantic movie
there was a blue room
where we taped up colorful cut-outs
of audubon birds on the crumbling walls
yellow ones with blue heads
and tails speckled with reds and grays

we ate freeze dried sugar cookies
from a long time ago
and other space food that we had found
along our journey here
when we stopped to rest
we would lay as animals
side by side
whispering lovely words that would
grow into song
moans and growls filling the cathedral walls
with our devotionals to mankind

this place
was so faraway and beautiful
that no ship could make its way back
to the earth where time went
forward still
it was more then one lifetime away from here
one lifetime
where lovers aged together
and children threw their stones
through time and and shattered window panes

even with our hibernation machines
and travelling at the speed of fluttering light
as moth wings through fan blades
you and i cannot escape

from where i am standing now
many ages have went quietly past
i cannot see the home anymore
or the room with our remains laying in bone

the other planet is too far gone
to be saved
and now i can finally understand how to see

i see you now as then
doing your long brown hair in the morning light
and then with a blink of time
you are then packing your bags
for one last time

the mirrors here in this prison
are empty of life as we knew it
except i have found one last mirror
where i am still looking back at a dead man
wondering where the stars
have taken you away from me
