I can see you!

A juvenile male Elephant Seal is looking backwards at the photographer (me) Image was taken at San Semion California. This young male was a part of a group that had at least 500 Elephant Seals. The pacific coast is home for this wonderful mammals and San Semion has several locations where they are protected. This was taken away from the tourist location, and on a streach of the beach where no people can go. distance was about 5 feet away from the animal.

Such innocent curiousity! What an amazing photo! Brilliant close up. Was this with a telephoto lens? He’s such a pretty, cuddly creature (so are you Eyal!!! LOL!!!) Love it!

  • Eyal Nahmias replied

Thanks Rusty, I shot this cuddly seal from 5 feet away. I used 80-200/2.8 nikkor lens for it, and I was crawling on my belly. One thing I learned very quickly photographing them and any other wildlife is not to appear taller or larger than they are. It’s quite amazing to be near a one ton bull at a touching distance. The moment I go up a bit they will chase you off.. and you have to be quick…
