A young Ecuadorian girl is carrying her baby brother on her back. Such a sight is not uncommon in South America, where kids as young as six or seven attend to their younger siblings needs while the parents work. This is a scan from a 35mm slide.

    For a scan it has very good color saturation.
    Did you have to touch up with Photoshop?
    I’ve scanned film photos before and I always have dust to get rid of.

    I like your work (otherwise I would not leave comment, due time constraints).
    Below my reasons for it and my honest opinion.
    Please don’t feel de-motivated if some honest feedback is given.
    I always mean it in a positive way. And in all, it’s just my perception anyway.

    Impact (does it grab attention?): strong
    Composition (use of space, lines): superb filling of he whole frame
    Subject matter: wonderful
    Focal point: both kids faces, but dont compete. Good
    Style (story): superb
    Lighting: really good, no shadows
    Color balance: very pleasant
    General: a real good candid shot

    This is an amazing image, and very touching! Definitely evokes emotion! Great lighting, color, facial expressions captured, etc…Great job! :) Thank you for sharing this! It’s amazing how different other “worlds” are from ours…in this country if they found a 6 yr old taking care of a “baby” on her/his own…we would be jailed! Kids would be seperated from family and put into a system that would most likely fail them! Makes you wonder how much better off we really are!
