Blight or Benefit by

This wind farm lies on top of Caton Moor, high above the Lune Valley in Lancashire and is one of the first to be built in the UK.

It was a brilliantly clear spring day with a few wispy clouds adding interest to a gloriously blue sky. I used an ND Grad to cut down the brightest parts of the sky and a slowish shutter speed to give a touch of motion blur to the blades without losing their slim shape.

Blight on the landscape. But brilliant work none the less!

  • Hi, thanks for that. As a photographer I tend to agree but am happy to make an exception just this once!

Great capture.. like that slight blur of motion.. the title..= the burning question.. :-))

  • Thanks Dave. I wasn’t really sure what shutter speed to use – given the deceptive speed of the blade ends – and ended up with 1/5 second after some experimentation!

    BLIGHT!

  • Thanks David. Like I said I tend to agree but when I got on top of the fell and looked up at the shining white against the pure blue sky I knew it was to my benefit just this once!

Essential if we’re to avoid a power shutdown/ nuclear waste pollution. These have their own beauty and it’s the first shot I’ve seen of moving blades – a superb bw.

  • Thanks Roger, glad it’s a little different to the norm.
