I decided to try out my shiny new camera with its, by all accounts, excellent 40mm [equivalent] lens by giving it a tough test.
I walked out across the flat sand to the isolated, fire damaged end of the once magnificent pier. Behind me is the undamaged, much shortened, body of the pier – with its seaside ‘attractions’ of amusement arcade, slot machines and cafe. The fire damaged bit is much more attractive in my view.
The sun was strong as it dipped towards the horizon and I waited for it to appear below the thin line of clouds. When it did, I was almost blinded by it’s ferocity and I expected lens flare to spoil the image I had envisioned. What I got was no lens flare and no softness or lack of contrast caused by glare. Maybe there’s something to using prime lenses after all……..
