Howdy! For most illustrative pics like this, I will do a couple of quick thumbnails to establish a composition, then do a few studies in my sketchbook of various characters/poses, and then draw up a decent pencil sketch which I scan into Photoshop. From there I either use that or Sketchbook Pro 2009 (I rate it!) to paint up the image on one layer, which I return to a couple of times after a break to make sure I haven’t lost the plot completely. Then its into Photoshop where I use my extensive library of self taken shots and textures to make a layered composition, using all its sneaky effects! So its kind of half traditional illustration, and half digital ‘cheating’ :) Thanks!
fantastic .. your right it is better without the text
Thanks Loneangel! Heh heh yeah I like it when you get to keep the rights to your own illustrations so you can do what you want with them for portfolio pieces. Good on ya!
Thanks very much JessPerry, I was going for a dynamic kind of composition! Very kind of you :)

Very nice!!!! Awesome my friend!! Have you also done some illustrations of some of the SNK characters as well?
Well, thanks very much mate! Whats SNK? I developed this guy as a character to be on various different posters I did for some local gigs so I have drawn various incarnations of him all with a sort of electro/cybernetic theme, it was really good fun!

I used to be a game tester thats why, SNK/Neo Geo are the guys who brought Fatal Fury to Samurai Showdown and King of Fighters franchises.
Ah true! Yeah I haven’t been able to afford to be a gamer in years unfortunately, so I’m well behind the times. I’ve always wanted to get into concept illustration for the film or game industry, but its a hard industry to crack in NZ! Did you do any development work at all?

I’ve just realised that in that case I am unwittingly infringing their copyright… hmmm!! Ah well it was an honest mistake of titling heh heh! :)
