Mountain Crag Dogfight

I started out aiming to create an aerial spatial study with a sense of vastness, and began adding more detail and action as the composition came together. I have always had a soft spot for aviation and a futuristic touch, and during a trip to the mountains with camera in hand I envisioned this high-altitude airbase scrambling its fighters to destroy an imminent Airship invasion. I thumbnailed this piece multiple times to get a dynamic composition, and then built up the layers from photos and sketches which I painted over in Photoshop.

    Haha thanks James! I would have happily kept going on this one but sometimes you have to just say’ enough is enough’ and move onto the next! Generally that’s around the time my nose is touching the computer screen at 4 AM…
