Well, we (hubby and I ) figured it was time to have a vacation…destination California….Our 15 year old had never seen the ocean… and the Long Beach Grand Prix (IRL) was going to be in town and we are all gear heads…now was going to be the right time…Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Hollywood, Venice Beach, IRL Racing…CALIFORNIA HERE WE COME!
I Cant believe we wanted sand..(we live in the desert…) but the Salt Air…I missed that….and Water! and Lots of it….the sounds and smells… sounds relaxing…
We stayed on the Queen Mary…for the first night…Long Beach, California…
My husband is a ex- Navy man…Ships are pretty cool…and I had family history that was connecting my family to the Ship…So staying on board seemed to be a good idea…as it would also make History real for our 15 year old… And for Me….My Great-Grandmother and Grandmother took a cruise on the Queen Mary (mid 1930’s)…I have a glass that came off the ship when they took their trip…I had looked at that glass as a child for years as it sat in the china hutch and wondered what it was like….The Queen Mary…so We just had to go see…Some of the original stuff is still on board and is really cool…It made me wonder where they (Grand-Mothers) stayed on board? Did we just eat where they ate? and did they drink in the lounge that is original to the Ship…maybe?
It was an adventure to go check all the corners of the ship… from stem to stern…port to starboard…all 12 levels…what a work out…stairs,corridors,ships ladders, hatches…
We took in the race, walking on the beaches, trying to surf ( the 15 year old), driving and just looking at everything….And I took a hell’a bunch of Images….
I took over 1500 images…and have posted just a few…I am going through the images and going to post a few more…hope you like our vacation pics…as I post ’em….
Its always good to get away…but good to be home….but I think I need a vacation from the vacation…
