Artist's Description

Luang Prabang, Laos: Ethnology Museum. Detail of Akha headdress. The old French coin is a reminder of Laos’ colonial past.
The Akha are distributed across Southeast Asia. Dress is a maker of ethnic identity among the various tribes and subgroups. Women’s garments are distinctive to each group with variations on indigo-dyed cotton, embroidery and silver decoration signifying tribal membership, gender and status.

Top 10 Winner The Old and Interesting Challenge in Color Me Nothing, 07/2014.
Winner: Made of Silver Challenge in #1 Favorites Group, 21/09/2015.
