Beijing, China: Beijing National Stadium.
Beijing National Stadium, or “Bird’s Nest” was built for the 2008 Olympic Games and was designed by the Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. The outer structure consists of 36 km of unwrapped steel. The stadium was used as the venue for track and field events during the 2008 Olympic Games and for the opening and closing ceremonies.

    Great shot, Ethna! I haven’t seen any of the new architecture for the Olympics yet – just a city full of building cranes in 2006… but maybe I’ll be back this autumn!

  • Thanks Marjolein! There are tours inside, though I didn’t take one. The interior looks quite interesting from photos I’ve seen and the technical details of how the building was desinged are fascinating.
