My goodness, I didn’t know these things still existed. My grandfather had one of these almost 100 years ago in the UK.
I, too, was very surprised to see them in use—they’re something I’ve always associated with St. Brendan and his travels. In the Southern India I also saw them used for fishing. Obviously a design that has stood the test of time!
