Cochin, India: Kathakali performer.
Kathakali is the traditional dance-theater of Kerala State in southern India. It originated in the 17th century. Kathakali performers use elaborate costumes, detailed gestures, well-defined body movements and elaborate make-up which takes hours to apply.

    Ha! i know that fellow! :) (Or his colleague.) We went to a performance in Kochi where before the show started you could watch how the performers put their elaborate make-up on. It didn’t take ‘hours’ but certainly close to an hour! Didn’t get close enough for a close-up like this though!
