Beijing, China: An old-style house which still uses coal briquettes for heating in the winter.

This house is in a neighborhood near the Forbidden City. With Beijing reinventing itself so quickly, every year there are fewer and fewer old-style houses.

    a very lively image! I like the small decorations on roof, windows and bike. And of course the colors are wonderful. Are they storing the bricks for firing in front of the house? Or is this the backyard…?

  • It’s at the front. Some older houses in Beijing sill use coal for heating. Thanks for the favorite!
