Xiamen (formerly known as Amoy) became a treaty port after China’s loss in the First Opium War and the Treaty of Nanking in 1842. Gulangyu is a small island opposite the city of Xiamen. As a former foreign concession, much of the island’s architecture is Western-style due to foreign settlement. More than a dozen countries established consulates, churches, and hospitals on the island. Gulangyu was officially designated an International Settlement in 1903.

Lovely shot! The tight frame to the rocks (or is some of it concrete?) works well to show off their shape and texture.

  • Thank you.

Such interesting shape and formation! Looks a bit like a ship mold.
