Portrait de Mademoiselle Elizabeth Gardnerby Estelle O'Brien
Oil on stretched canvas Genesis heat set oils 30 × 40 cm After Bouguereau…this is my interpretation of William Bouguereau’s (1825-1905) painting, done after watching a dvd portrait tutorial by Leslie Tribolet. This lesson helped my understanding of skin tones.
Wow, wow, wow ! Estelle, this is REALLY darn good…..It’s such a gorgeous portrait with the right tones for the flesh, a particuarly straight look and perfect shades. What a strong nature this lady must have been ! Bravo, bravo
Thanks so much Corinne…yes he eventually married her in his old age after a very long engagement.
The portrait tutorial that you watched really HAS helped you understand the skin tones Estelle! She has the complexion of a peach and is beautifully done. I wouldn’t mind watching this dvd myself…… A beautiful portrait.
Thanks Colombe…I am always happy when I feel I have learned something. :))
Great work Estelle. I haven’t had much time for Red Bubble this year but good to see how your work is progressing. Are you still at school and enjoying it. How do you like using Genesis heat set oils?
Thanks Faye…not at uni at the moment, my health is not so good so I have dropped out for now, but am doing a weekly art class, hope to get back the the Fine Arts when I pick up a bit. I love the Genesis…they are so easy to use once you master the knack of the heat gun (I burnt my first painting!). I love the fact that they act just like ordinary oils but there is no clean up and they stay wet for as long as you like…and then dry instantly.

I like the greens in the skin tones – and the eyes are luminous. She could be my relative – my mother’s maiden name was Gardner.
Maybe you are related…she eventually married Bougereau in France but she was American. Thanks Lora :)
