Vivid Opera House with Fort Denisonby Erik Schlogl
Sydney Opera illuminated in colour as part of LUMINOUS, “a festival of music, ideas, light and performance,” curated by Brian Eno and part of Vivid Sydney 2009.
Many people photographed the Opera House when it was lit up like this, but here’s a capture I couldn’t resist uploading.
Equipment : Nikon D300, tripod, Nikon 18-200mm lens Technique: 5 bracketed images (2EV steps from -4EV to +4EV), processed in Photomatix and tidied up slightly in Lightroom.

Nice perspective Eric! Where did you take your photo from? (if you don’t mind sharing) =)
No worries – it’s taken from the Harbour Bridge, or more accurately: on the Circular Quay-side approach to the Harbour Bridge, just before the metal bridge itself (I found that the bridge proper vibrates too much for long exposures).
Thank you for sharing your work with the Photomatix HDR Group. This wonderful example of a Photomatix-processed image has been accepted into the Group!
Hi Erik I think that the Sydney opera house is the only building in Australia, its way over filmed and photograph’t however this is somthing different, it almost looks to me that a butterfly party is on the go. Great shot…Well Done!
Thanks Mark! And yes, Australia is somewhat short of photogenic buildings, so the few that there are, are photographed to saturation (in Sydney the Queen Victoria Building is another example).
