Kingfish (Seriola lalandi), Ned’s Beach, Lord Howe Island, Australia. Image taken while snorkeling.

Large areas around Lord Howe Island are totally protected from fishing, so there is a proliferation of large fishes – and the fishing is consequently very good in those areas where it is allowed. The fish in this image must have been well over a meter long, one of a resident population of Kingfish at Ned’s Beach (no fishing!), where the fishes are fed regularly and are therefore a lot less shy.

Nikon D300, Nikkor 24 mm, ISO 200 in RAW, f/9 at 1/640 sec, Seacam housing.
