This is inside the Phare D’Eckmuhl, one of the tallest and most powerful lighthouses in France. Quite a climb. I love the way the light from the windows plays over the steps. It can be found on the coast of Brittany, near the city of Quimper.
63 meters high, it was completed in 1897, and still functions today – it’s light can be seen almost 50 miles away, although it is now automated.
Taken on a Canon Eos 500, holding the camera out at arms length, whilst pointing it down; hence took a couple of goes to get the composition right. No flash, monochrome, f5, exposure 1/30. A high iso of 1600. No adjustment made for exposure. Most importantly, the strap was securely wrapped around my wrist!
