Gold Panner, Pogera Gold Mine by

Porgera Gold Mine, Enga Province, Papua New Guinea

A local woman who spends most of her day panning for gold in the waste that flows largely untreated from the Porgera Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea. The waste contains sulphur, cyanide and mercury and is over 50°C. The mine has destroyed rivers and ecosystems and is poisoning the local people while the land it is ravaging was taken from traditional owners without proper compensation. The mine is owned and run by Canadian mining giant Barrick Gold, also responsible for destroying pristine indigenous land in North-West NSW and around the world.

Visit protestbarrick.net to take action against this dirty and dangerous company.
