earth and bird

I pick up your crumbs
like eyes in the earth
stars in the dark -

shattered body,
ready to be replanted

and so, I place my hands
where the earth should be
and call you
with the bird in my throat aching, singing:

grow with me

your heart bursts at the seams
shakes the tree I sit on,
and I know you are close

I’ll be here
creating your sun, moon and rain
till you’re ready

far below
space and time
I hear your music of earth and bird
spreading open the echo of dream and possibility
like a war cry of freedom,
and I know you’ll be here soon:

I’ll be waiting
my heart, I’ll be waiting

These “simple” poems can be so mystical and high, perhaps because the closer we get to pure spirit the simpler and clearer all things become. This is such a beautiful poem, Erika. To me you seem to be writing from the fields Rumi danced in, spouting wild poems from the heart.

  • oh my god. You know, you’re the second person who has mentioned that my work is similar to Rumi’s, I can’t quite adequately describe how incredible it is to be told that. Rumi is one of my favorite, and it’s such an honor. Truly.
Blake your words are so beautiful. I just don’t know how to thank you for such comments, my friend.

You understand the space I write from…you know this: we are born dancers in space of no space; time of no time; love of being and stars in our veins. We float. :) You are smiling.
    me too, daaaling little sister.
you have all my love; not many know the well from which love springs; fewer still are brave enough to dip in their pails.
    x

  • Dear K.
ah, you amazing poet/human/soul/heart. Yes, I am smiling… how did you know?
I think our poetry is born from that intangible place – dark and quiet. And the same goes for love: love is so strong, it’s magical to even near the threshold of its kingdom.
Love you too, my dear K-sister. x

the closeness of this shakes me with emotion,
    wonderful.

  • You feel that trembling, too?
oh, how amazing. That’s what I felt when I wrote this: a shaking and trembling because the emotion was so strong.
    Thank you Jake :)
Hope all is well in your world.

Lovely gentle writing Erika – this simple yet deeply profound poem takes the reader into that space of recreation where we can be in touch with the reality that love flows in a quiet stream where humanity can see its reflection and take its self in a little at a time – your ‘hands on the earth’ a kind of annointing gesture, this is a glimpse dear friend of that existence that is close and touching all who will open and feel – a favorite for me

  • George, your words and gentle interpretations of my poems are incredible. I love the way you’ve explained this piece, my friend. And I can only thank you for it.

sigh I am floating and my feet are pirouetting not on the rich earth but in the clouds,
I guess I belong up there. So beautiful and full of emotion xxoxx

  • you lovely soul :)
I can so see you floating up there, with me, for I belong up there as well. Your words always make me smile, dear friend. I’ve missed so much of your work! I’m so sorry. I haven’t spent much time here on RB, so I thank you so much for reading my poem. I must make some time for your work. Much love to you, my kindred soul xoxoxo

I wonder how patient love can be sometimes and I so feel it is different for all of us ….maybe depending on how much self-love we have inside.
I love how this flowed as I read your reads, your voice in this is steady and softly spoken but it sure was not any kind of whisper…xxx

  • I think it is different for all of us, and I think it depends on the situation and where you are in life. Patience is love, but taking advantage of that patience is definitely another story. Here I tried to capture that loving patience you would have towards another, very much like watering and looking after a plant or a flower: how you would tend to it, water it, provide sun for it until it finally peaks out from beneath the earth to greet you. And then you realize, that your patience and time was worthwhile.
And yes, my voice here is steady, soft in a caring way, but very sure of itself.
Your insight is incredible dear KarenSue. xxx

you speak like those quantum physics scientists I have been listening to the other day … only in poetic form …. how beautiful Erika :)

  • I speak like quantum physics scientists?! Really? :D oh wow, hahaha! Now that is really quite amazing to be told. I like, though, that you see a scientific side to this perhaps.
Thank you so much for reading dear Anna x
