Art For The World

Lies cover up lies
Dust covers up dust
We live in the dirt’s crust
of ancient ways of mind

Today
is the beginning and the end of our lives
as the earth erodes away
with decrepit thought and rule
it crumbles in the overbearing
weight of falsehood

Be
a rebel with a cause
a pioneer
a revolutionary
a leader of the new and different
give the world a breath of fresh air
as it rots in the swamp of deceit and cruelty
and spins blindfolded
toward another horizon-
it knows and feels another light
it needs our hands to guide it

So let’s defy gravity
and all that shapes
conformity and conventionality
and create another path

I cannot be defined
much less molded-
a shapeless energy,
and I know you are too

So let’s start another way of being
because the world is dull
it needs music and rhythm
it’s out of key again

With your soul and mine
let’s break the barriers
and unite the divided
fuse differences into similarities
erase borders and impossibilities
and let’s be one
as we take on the beautiful task
of repainting the world with our art

Viva, friend! This hits me right in the heart. Your words are so true, so incredibly relevant. This is such a powerful rallying call to the artists of the world. Truly, you have a vision. And where there is a will… Oh, this also reminded me of James Dean, for some particular reason… :D

  • Erika . replied

where there is a will, there’s a way I believe that! haha! love your words. And yes, James Dean in “Rebel Without A Cause” -one of my favorite movies. Except that in this case there is a cause. Be a rebel with a cause…always. We need purpose in order to do something different and change things, then you’re just not breaking rules just for the hell of it. Although I do admit that breaking rules just to break them is quite fun :) And I’m not surprised to find that this hits you right in the heart. I had you in mind when I wrote some parts of this. It was actually some of the poetry you’ve been writing that inspired me to write this. I am glad these words spoke to you my friend. It means a lot. :)

Wow this is magnificent my friend Erika. I love the passion and intensity that feeds the words and is the subtext to each line. I feel most inspired in greeting this poem before I go to work. It is a courageous and captivating call to action….beautiful done dear Erika. And congrats on your feature.

    Just love these words:

    Be
    a rebel with a cause
    a pioneer
    a revolutionary
a leader of the new and different
give the world a breath of fresh air
as it rots in the swamp of deceit and cruelty
    and spins blindfolded
    toward another horizon-
it knows and feels another light
it needs our hands to guide it

And ‘repainting the world with our art’ indeed. Amen.

this is very good piece Erika … I like many things in it a lot … like the idea that the world is out of key – that is such a wide reaching loving metaphor …. also how you’ve separated the word ‘be’ so that it takes an autonomous stand ...and then you’ve continued to develop it more .. also the intro and then the contrast of that what follows give the whole a sort of revolutionary song type of feel and so on …. very inspiring …. anthem ?

  • Erika . replied

wow Anna I love how you have explained this poem. When I wrote this thoughts just flowed, I didn’t take time to “construct” it a certain way. I wrote this once, and added one or two phrases. So I’m glad to hear this is well written and the message is loud and clear. Love your comment. Thank you so much! xx

    awesome piece of work
Rebel Artist – now that is an interesting idea
hard to achieve (art is half in the viewer and reader – thus you need readers and viewers who are equally rebelious in ideologies) but possibly ground breaking…
    very nice work:)

  • Erika . replied

“Rebel Artist” I like that. :) and yes, we need readers and viewers who are equally rebellious in ideologies in order to do something new and different. It may be a little hard, but definitely worth it I think. Thanks for your support and for reading Alex. :)

I have to agree with Selkie on this one. I promise I’m being completely honest when I say you bring the world something new and different with each of your poems, Erika. And they’re not just new and different, they’re bloody brilliant too. I wish I could write the way you do, your words have such an impact, they really shoot the reader straight in the heart and make them think. You’re right, I love this. LOVE it. Viva La Revolucion! Viva You!Xxx

  • Erika . replied

Julia…your words are just…wow. They make my day so much. All I ever want to do in this world is bring something new and different and to hear you say that just means…the world would be too small to compare how your words made me feel….I guess your words mean the universe I mean seriously, to have you say that my words actually do make an impact and that they shoot straight to the heart and make people think is just the ultimate compliment ever. It’s awesome! I probably sound over-excited, but it’s true…your words are uplifting Julia…thank “god” (LOL) I ran into you…love you, XXX

  • Julialala

    Julialala

Hahaha! Thank ‘god’ thank I ran into you too! I don’t think you realise how inspiring you are. If we could get every person in the world to read just one of your poems, they probably wouldn’t need religion anymore (what a great solution, huh? :D). I’m touched that you consider what I said to be the ‘ultimate compliment ever’, but I swear I’m telling the truth! Xxxxxx

  • Erika . replied

Julia…you gotta stop saying such amazing stuff! haha! no, i’m just kidding please keep going!
If we could get every person in the world to read just one of your poems, they probably wouldn’t need religion anymore I mean do you even know what that means to me? I can’t even express the beauty of your words. And I believe you’re saying the truth Julia, because you are an honest person – it’s written all over your poetry and it manifests itself in your art. I wish I could give you a real hug for saying all this Julia, but I have to use these dumb XXXX’s haha! So BIG HUGS from me to you my beautiful friend. And THANK YOU so very much xoxoxo
