my love is a blackbird by Erika .

my love is a blackbird by

my love is a blackbird
and a crisp white dove

at night
I tie him to my right hip
and in the day
he’s above my head

he let’s my hair grow
beyond the length of my body
to reach the stars -

and so does my wildness
so does my madness
my beautiful madness

he is the melody when he cries
the moon when he sighs

my love is a crisp white dove
my beautiful dark love

a crazy self portrait :)
I love drawing my hair in a wild way, I feel it captures so much of my inner world: that creative, perhaps artistic madness, and strangeness, too. Like this self-portrait here

mixed media – pencil, pastel, watercolor on strathmore drawing paper

Very lovely work Erica both the drawing and the poem – the inner world and indeed the inner life are I am sure where art and the gift of clear seeing and learning all along one’s path are born – i got a feeling of the balckbird and the dove being your vision and inspiration for the world and as you know it is very much a vision that I share – excellent work and a favorite for me

  • Such kind words, my friend, and yes that inner world where art is born.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts.

  • haha! yes it’s a blackbird, I think ;D
It could be a crow too. Or whatever you feel it could be.
I also feel like it’s a thought in the form of a flying bird…

Erika, I just love this… I can so relate to that feeling of wildness that stirs deep within your heart possessing your being, becoming apart of, always was, is and will be, nb aspect of what and who you are.
I love how you refer to your love as a blackbird and a crisp white dove… for me these diametrically opposed representations of love simply sum up how endless and far reaching your love actually is… it is wild and fast and free and deep, and yet calm and cool, pure and peaceful. I feel that to be loved by you must be like an experience of erasing all boundaries and barriers. Entering into a world of love without condition. I also feel that by drawing your hair over your eyes you are expressing how that madness becomes a way in which you see the world.
Looking out through that wild artistic curtain of creative and speculative madness. I love this piece my dear friend. It resonates with me on so many different levels. x

  • I’ve read your comment lots of times now. I think it’s one of my favorite’s ever. Your insight of this and me is just mind-blowing. I think you’ve explained everything just as it is, and have even added more to this artwork and my words. And that madness… I just know you know. You beautiful soul, thank you xx

  • I can’t quite express how much these words of yours mean to me. To be told that I’m growing from strength to strength means a great deal, for I’ve often thought the opposite. It’s an honor to have your kindness as a support throughout my self-evolution. Thank you dear KarenSue. xxx
