Imperfect Society by Erika .

Posted on August 19, 2009

If we know perfection is not possible
then why do we insist on being perfect?

If we know we’re flawed
then why do we hide it?

And if we know we’re all crazy and weird in our own way
then why are we afraid of showing it
and gasp when other people are fearless about expressing their own uniqueness and individuality?

Is society really that controlling of our ways of being and living?
Have we created this stifling system we’ve conformed ourselves to, but secretly ache to break free from?

And if this is so, then why don’t we do something about it?!

because we cannot come together in this, which would also be a sort of conformity, however,
most lead their lives without thought or want to bring about an open change…being free is an individual sort of loneliness, then in this loneliness we feel separate and alienated…so many, at first, for a time, are fascinated by my weirdnesses, then over a time being who I am and who they are, decide to follow the crowd and depart from my crazy way of thinking…people tend to need routine and to be under the control of the status quo, being less confused by their own place in the world…

people tend to need routine and to be under the control of the status quo, being less confused by their own place in the world… exactly! For some reason they think that it’s easier to just be told what to do, or just “fitting in” so as to avoid exposing their oddness. I don’t know, but that’s what it seems like to me. I wonder what world we would live in if we just let our inner creativity and unique ideas and ways of thinking just flow out into the world. I think we would be living in a much more interesting and dynamic society and culture.

well! you did ask THE question didn’t you Erika.:) No easy answers to this…I do feel that although we have envolved physically and mentally, where team work (tribal) wins the day, there is still a long emotional path ahead for us to follow..Perhaps the future is in the hands of artists :) x

  • Erika .:

haha! I remembered what you’d said when I wrote these questions! Turns out I did write only questions after all!
But I like what you said about the future being in the hands of the artists. I do believe artists have much to offer….and the emotional evolution is waiting to unfold. x

I have only one answer to this, we become poetics, writers, and publishers and we fend ourselves with vision of words. That is what makes you such a fantastic human being, you don’t let illusions blurrrrrrr what is real and what is fake. You don’t side step the truth, you plow right threw it, you don’t allow a blemish to become an unwritten scar, you don’t pass up a good fight where the freedom in words can bring peace. You light the world without a torch, you take the fight to their living room and coach them into coming outside, and you are just you. Okay, I said I only had one answer, but I ran out of tape to wrap around my throat, I mean mouth, well I still have my fingers to write and, here I go again, sorry, I too speak my mind. LOL Your words are darts that pierce and I love the pain it brings, because they are your most inner thoughts, you rock with this, go for it, write and express, you are free.

  • Erika .:

Oscar! WOW!!! Just amazing words from you my friend!
So inspiring and encouraging. Really thank you so much, they mean a lot! :)

“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked . . .”
We try to do better because we know what we are, because we know good and evil, dark and light, we know we are lost unless we be granted grace. It is the burden of free will, and we must aspire to attain that which we cannot, and ask grace to make up the difference. To give up is to truly choose the path of darkness and to give up that one all important wellspring from which issues any good thing we do – hope.

  • Erika .:

To give up is to truly choose the path of darkness…yes, wise words Katya.
Giving up truly feeds hopelessness and disappointment. I guess hope is the motivation behind many things and actions amongst people and throughout history. It is as you say, the wellspring from which issues any good thing we do- but love is also a factor and an important wellspring for all the good things we do.
Lovey thoughts my friend. Thank you. :)

Erika, these are great questions. And the answer to that is society. And who made up society? People. And are we not people? So, maybe we are a little at fault here. But, then there are those of us who says what the heck and keep on doing whatever they feel like whether other people like it or not. The only thing that there are two words for it. If you are rich, then you are an excentric. And if you are poor, you are crazy. I prefer to call myself insane. Do I make sense? Iris

  • Erika .:

hahaha! yes you make sense Iris!
Yes, I prefer to call myself insane as well!!! It only makes sense! ;D

oh Erika its so true, i just wrote an essay now about leaving this lifestyle for a life. I think it also boils down to compettion and the need to be better than everyone else, and by eing perfect, the ultimateperson, the ultimately ur perfect and everybody wants to be like you, to be perfect. People are strange like that, they live this life of trying to be the best. and we’re als scared of judgment, because by being perfect we leave no room for judgement and ctiticism.
I’m with you. I don’t care what i look like though occaionally my friends put that pefection pressue on me but i try to be myself, unique as i am, as much as possible.
    Everybody is different
    A part from the rest
    A thing we call individuality
That makes us each our best

  • Erika .:

    Exactly!!!
Society puts so much emphasis on being perfect and doing things a certain way, and this is supposed to be a good thing and be a certain way.
Just pathetic….I say this now, and I hope to be able to say it when I’m old as well. I just hate how society teaches us to live our lives a certain way, when there’s so much more to life according to every individual and their creativity. Everyone has their own truth and way of living so that’s what we have to cultivate…and in the end, it’s about you not what people want you to be.
Well, just ranted there a little;D
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Fiona…I completely agree with them. xx
