Battambang Temple Guard by EricKuns

Battambang Temple Guard by

A kind of Post Impressionist, Expressionistic digital painting of a Cambodian temple guardian. The paint effect is contrived, but the overall effect is not. I wanted it to be vibrant, energetic, luminous, and seemingly tactile (with the kind of liveliness that Van Gogh canvases have). The creature himself should be animated and alert, something like a guard dog might be.

[Note that this is loosely based on a photo I took of a sculpture. in Battambang. I added missing teeth, color and details, as well as a completely imaginary background. Also, there’s no magic filter in PhotoShop to get these kinds of results. I created all the strokes individually using a drawing tablet.]
