Piran / Pirano, Slovenia, the Tartini statue on the town’s wonderful main square. Piran was put together with a Built-Your-Own-Venice kit – note the little palazzo and the Campanile copy – but it has some genuine virtues of its own, and I’m genuinely in love with it. Tartini was a locally born composer in the vein of Vivaldi. See? It’s all there, except the gondolas.
