Charlie,
Sorry, I just noticed your comment here. Yes, I am a member of a club that flies in Orangeburg, SC. Info at www.tripolisc.org. I’ll see if I can find info for a club closer to you.

banditart,
This does make for some challenging photography. I usually shoot rockets in burst mode. 3 frames per second is adequate, but faster would be nice. It also takes some practice to get familiar with the different types of rocket motors and how they react in various shapes and sizes of rockets. That way you have a better idea of when to start shooting the photo and how fast the rocket will leave your field of view. Trying to follow the rocket with the camera is extremely difficult. I just set up on a tripod and leave enough space in the frame to get 2 or 3 shots of the moving rocket and still get some detail. practice, practice, practice.
noise? Oh, heck, yeah! smoke, flame and noise. What else can a guy ask for on a weekend? I’m pretty sure there is high power rocketry in Australia, also. I’ll see what info I can dig up for you.

Charlie,
This club from Alabama, which flies in Manchester, TN, may be your closest site other than our club in SC. hararocketry
banditart,
Check this link TRA Australia for info in AUS.
Visiting a launch can be a fun day. Don’t forget your cameras. this hobby can be addictive.
BTW, the rocket above is about 5 or 6 feet tall.
