Narrow leafed Vetch - Viccia sativa ssp. nigra by

There are many species of vetch across the southeastern United States, this one, my reference is unclear whether this specific vetch is native or if it originates from Mediterranean Europe, the USDA reference says it’s introduced. It is found in disturbed ground along roadways and often seen growing with red clover. the blossom are sometimes white but turn pink or purple. The flower is pea like and small, perhaps 3/8 inch across. this one was growing in southeast Columbia Co, Florida along a stretch of country road.

Nice. I like the contrast of the soft flower petal with the intersecting lines. Great composition.

Thank you Debi. This is what you do when you are returning home from emptying a bank account – you stop and take pictures of little flowers that aren’t supposed to be blooming along the highway.

beautiful macro rd, this also looks a bit like an Orchid

  • I was sort of amazed to see this little thing blooming – the wild radish – yeah – this is the time of year around here – although the frost does damage the petals a bit. Spring is for sure gonna get here yet one of these days.

Pretty, so much of this was introduced.

  • I was kind of surprised to find that cattle prefer this to almost any other grazing. I also thought it wasn’t good for them – learn something every day.
