Artist's Description

Bidens Mitis is found growing in the rich soil around ponds and lakes. Alligator Lake, where this image was taken, in north Florida, Columbia County, at the edge of Lake City, has dried almost completely in the north end of the lake. Only a very small trickle of a stream still meanders from a few large ponds to the sink hole that swallowed all the rest of the water. Earlier in the year, the lake is filled with Yellow Lotus, in the fall, the Marsh Beggartick takes to the stage with a brighter yellow. it grows nearly 5 feet high, with most of the plants averaging three to 4 feet. each golden yellow blossom has eight petals, unless having lost one. the book says 8 to eleven petals, all i saw had eight.

the bumble bees were everywhere going from flower to flower, along with the monarch butterfly’s, buckeyes, gulf fritillary, and one red admiral.
