O-Bahn

As I struggle to wake
I know I must take
Many steps to the place
Of waiting

The cold is unkind
And the sun makes me blind
Day after day
Of restating

Yet still I unfold
The bedclothes of old
Knowing I will reach
My location

To save my old car
From travelling so far
And a few drops of fuel for
The nation

The Torren winds
And unbinds
In the hope that we might find
Thoughts left behind
At dawning

And the track
That we take
Hopes that we will make
Time to relate
At morning

Good time we do keep
As my partner does sleep
Through the grass and the trees
And the river

Ipods and books
Mobile phones and terse looks
Are all part of what she
Can deliver

Some do complain
That she’s not quite as tame
And predictable
As she could be

But when we get out of the car
And wonder where we are
We would not want to lose her
Now would we?

The Torren winds
And unbinds
In the hope that we might find
Thoughts left behind
At dawning

And the track
That we take
Hopes that we will make
Time to relate
At morning
