Broody Brown Bantam in the Purple Grass by

This is Pickwick, one of my chooks, taking her turn looking after the communal egg pile. :)

Unfortunately, because I do not have a rooster, I fear she is wasting her time… I feel mean when I pick her up and put her in front of some food, but if I didn’t do it she would sit there and starve for days on end! Which is very admirable in its own way, but really not necessary if they’re not going to hatch… When I move her, she eats for a minute, then goes flapping back to her eggs, clucking and fussing in the most motherly way. It’s a shame they can’t have babies, they’d make such great mums, and the chicks would be gorgeous little fluff balls!

The grass is that long purple stuff that I don’t know the name of. You know… that long purple stuff that’s kind of green at the bottom…

Great capture, almost looks like a chick in a nest.. They have great camo!! Well shot :)

  • Thank you! Yes, she found a great spot for nesting, although I think she wasn’t too impressed that I managed to find her there! :)
