the pen remains mightier than the sword

I switch off the electrical gizmo
Reaching over for the nearest pen
The beginning of these words flows in gushes and droughts from an inconsistent well
“clunk” as the cheap import hits the base the steel pressed bin
a beautiful “click” resounds from an old friend
the old saying is never far from my lips
a good cliché is worth its weighted argument
now though the pen has a new battle
txt
sadly for many the rolling ball has lost most of its allure
silicone, polycarbonate, poly this and that
no longer does postman Joe blow his whistle and push pedals
no more inked letters of love from afar
instead driver Sam delivers cartons by the van full
clever marketeers sell yesterdays techno as a saviour of our time
never has free time been so precious and rare
must haves, have replaced, haves and gotten
so here
the satisfaction I felt while hand rolling my inked scribe
muted when converted to its modern world format
I will ride the rolling ball again
And preach it’s almighty power

the pen remains mightier than the sword
