Crepuscular Rays - Como Jetty Western Australia by

Crepuscular Rays over the horizon photographed at the Como Jetty in Perth, Western Australia.

Crepuscular rays can appear when the clouds (or terrain) that are responsible for the rays are below the horizon. The so-called crepuscular rays are solar rays cast on the purple red, while the sun is below the observer’s horizon, and sometimes span the entire twilight sky towards the Earth’s shadow band (the twilight wedge). If the purple red is obvious, look for these uncommon rays fanning out of the horizon.

A amazing and rare sight, With the rays of light beaming up from the horizon and right up into the sky as you can see in this shot.

The Jetty is a famous Perth landmark and is heritage listed.

History of the Como Jetty:

Como Jetty was constructed in 1907 as part of the Como beach development which began in 1905. The Jetty was used by a ferry service in it’s early years which served as a stopping point for a service between Applecross, Como and the Barrack Street Jetty.

In 1929 a swimming jetty was constructed at the end of the main jetty after much fund raising, The resulting swimming enclosure became home to the Como Swimming Club (formed in 1931) for many years.

The main Jetty was rebuilt in 1982, and in 1994/1995 the swimming jetty was declared unsafe and was removed, and the main jetty was extended.
