The Council House is a Heritage Listed Building and is the office of the Perth City Council.
The building is fitted out with 22,000 LED Lights in April 2010 and are computer controlled, the lights take on different colours and patterns and special patterns and themes are often made to mark major events and special occasions, the lights change colours approximately every 30 seconds. The LED lights were installed as a part of a new program by the Heritage council of Western Australia to brighten up heritage listed buildings in the Perth CBD to liven up and make the buildings more attracting during nighttime hours.
