Mammatus clouds (Landscape)
This series of Mammatus clouds where taken on December 27 2004 just as a really big summer thunderstorm had formed over my house here in Perth, Western Australia.
From what I read, the Mammatus clouds are caused by ice in the clouds becoming heavy and causing the cloud to sag.
A very rare site!
Taken with my 20D and 70-200 f/4.

Thanks for all the comments. :)
I went out my front door to take a look at the approaching storm and was very surprised to see these clouds! They lasted about 30 mins and then the storm moved in. Got allot of lightning that night from this storm.
I haven’t seen the Morning glory cloud in real life, But have seen photos and read about it.

WOW! very surreal. great image!!
powderedwater
Lovely shot!! I absolutely love weather photography!
Btw, Mammatus clouds usually mean hail and very strong updrafts.
Supercooled water droplets or ice continue to grow with the updrafts picking up water droplets, inside the cloud, and soon become very heavy and can fall as very thick rain or well developed hail stones.
Will definitely keep an eye out for your upcoming photos! Fantastic.! :)
