This dragon is listed as Endangered under the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 and is known from only a handful of locations in western NSW. This individual is a male in breeding colours. When in breeding season, the males display prominently on elevated rocks waving and head-bobbing to attract the attention of any female passing by.
