Lovely … we have had many visit recently … they are quite lovely, but seem smaller than the ones in Tasmania … but that may just be my poor recollection :)

  • Gday Trish, this species actually migrates along the east coast of Australia, with Tasmanian birds spending the winter in warmer areas of the mainland. But there are a couple of races of this species which may differ in size slightly. Cheers, Steve

Thanks for the added info Steve!
Our visitors are the same colouring as this, while my recollection of those in Tassie is of slightly different colouring as well as size, which is confirmed on The Australian Museum website Birds in Backyards.
