The Holy Cross Toad Notaden bennettii is a fossorrial frog that occurs in western NSW and south-western QLD spending much of its life below the surface encased in its own cocoon. It is not until heavy rains penetrate the soils and reach the frog do they emerge and begin breeding in temporary ponds.
