Artist's Description

“I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe.” Dalai Lama

“The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear.” Brian Tracy

“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.” Buddha

“Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at the moment.” Eckhart Tolle

We experience pain and loss in Life, and we think them bad things. Difficult or challenging is not the same thing as “bad”. Most often, it is next to impossible for us to see the good and beneficial in the most difficult moments of our lives. Yet, the most painful experiences are often ones that teach us the most.

Like much in Life, I believe Perception is key. In some experiences, we will never see all the threads that have come together to create that moment, nor will we see that worse events could have come into being instead. Sometimes tragedy strikes to prevent a more grievous loss. When the car breaks down on the side of the road and the assumed order of our day is broken, we feel angry, frustrated, anxious over completing our list of goals for that day, and concern over the plans we had for the future. But, what if that experience prevented the driver from becoming part of a larger accident involving more pain and difficulty for more people had they continued on their way? Many moments in Life contain blessings we simply aren’t readily equipped to perceive within the moment.

Perhaps we should look at the dark and painful moments of our lives as tools that the Universe uses to wake us up. Pain is often an indication that something needs to change, and the more we fight it… the more we prolong our pain and deny Awakening. We are not omniscient beings, but with focus, patience, contemplation and practice we can certainly become Aware ones!
