A little known fact is that this guy also invented the monocycle in 1467.

So we owe it all to an anteater rather than Leonardo. Bet you’re going to tell me next he didn’t invent the helicopter. Clever and funny En, I like your humour.
Yes the helicopter… Umm… Sorry to disabuse you Brian but I thought everyone knew that the Fourteenth century Dutch adventurer and entrepreneur Woorl van de Haag (whirlie to his friends) invented it as a means of directing breeze onto the sails of his ship the ‘Willem the eighth’. No-one was more surprised than he when he beat the Willem to the New World by nine months, three weeks and two days.
Perhaps you’re getting mixed up with Hurricane Hornblower the third – motto, ’It’s an ill wind wot blows nobody some good’. He failed at English you know. Twas he who gave his scurvy crew beans and had them facing aft, bellbottoms bedecked. He idea, before Newton came up with his 3rd law of motion, was the precursor to Whirlie’s turbo-fan you mention, which also turned out to be a lot of hot air. However, at the time it was thought to be a wonderful invention and made Hornblower a fortune selling his idea – what he called his Trade winds venture – unfortunately it soon backfired, as did his scurvy crew.
Yes, I remember now. I believe that on return to port the crew were no longer fit for sailing and had to get shore jobs around the harbour. I’m told they became quite expert at working on piles.Seriously though … always get a good chuckle from your replies.
when clicking on a funny, you don’t expect such a hilarious history lesson!!! Whether it’s true or not doesn’t matter… its the laugh that counts, so thanks for that ;D
what an amazing surprise! i could be here “en passant”, but i think i’m staying to read more…. very instructive!EnPassant, i “love” your vitruvian armadillo (we call it “tatu” in brasil). and your humor!coming here opened a new perspective to me… i had not thought of bringing cartoons to redbubble, now i see it different.
Thanks DreaM. I don’t expect to sell any of the cartoons I have on RB but I feel it adds a few lighthearted moments for anyone who is browsing and likes to giggle a little.
Thanks for the feature Shooting Star8.
