If only

If only I had known you when you were young and vibrant
When you were able to bring life, nourishment and joy
To who-ever came into contact with you.

If only I had known you before
You became contaminated by modern life
And were still pure, sparkling, heaven sent.

If only people had cared enough to respect you
To care for you,
Instead of being greedy and taking without thought.

If only people had realised your true worth,
And knew that their future was linked with yours
But they didn’t until it was too late.

Now I meet you at the end days
And only see glimpses of your former glory
Amid the desolation.

If only I could have saved you,
If only people had cared,
If only…………

The death of a river.

I live in the Australian countryside with my animals. Together we explore the land around us and their connection with the world helps me to see what I would otherwise be blind to. They are my teachers.

My aim is to convey this other way of seeing through my photography.

Why did you have to write this about me? { :>( Love it so much, it can be taken so by so many to mean what they feel, Wonderful

  • Yes, it was meant to encompass all aspects, human and otherwise, because we are all in this together – whatever affects one will affect the other……there is no separation…love is the solution, only love.

wow that hits a button inside but so many images come up i have thought amidst some veterans or patients de-institutionalized or just older family and friends i wonder what they were like before all this you mentioned even thank that bout my ex struggling with borderline and had a horrible childhood

  • You’re quite right, I’ve worked in mental institutions and in aged care homes, and the same applies. It’s about neglect and suffering. All over the planet. Thank you for commenting.

I thought it was about our tormented earth… but it can be read as a symbol of many things… this is a fine piece of poetry :-)

  • Thanks Tove. I appreciate your feedback:-)
