New spectacles! How wonderful I thought. Now I’ll be able to see clearly again. After a month of using my old ones after damaging my usual pair in a fall, I am well and truly looking forward to collecting my new ones. So down the road I drive – a two hour drive – in the heat and with no air-conditioning in the car. On go the new specs….no, that’s not right….no, I cannot read easily with these….not unless I hold my head at a strange angle….

Just an adjustment needed, I’m told. The specs are adjusted so the lens is at a different angle. On they go again….yes, a little better….I’m told to give my eyes a chance to adapt to the new lens and come back if need be.

Well, I’m having to make another trip down the long road in the heat…..I’ve dents in my nose from the frame, and I’ve needed to go back to wearing my old pair if I want to see what’s on my computer. More than $500 spent on something that is not satisfactory – it doesn’t seem quite right to me. Never before have I had trouble seeing properly with new lenses…I wonder if the new owner of the business is up to the task….pity the other chap retired…wish I’d known….

Kinda like life. Every once and a while an adjustment is needed as we grow and change. Sometimes it seems that what we get is just right. Other times we wonder what in the heck? This can’t be right? But we are told to give it time. We’ll adjust.

But what if we don’t? Either because we can’t – or – we just don’t want to?

Man. I think I am looking waaaaay too deep into this. Perhaps I need some new glasses too!

  • Enivea replied

I don’t think you’re going too deep Jo, I keep looking at the significance of the events of recent weeks, to ‘see’ the bigger picture. Maybe I should have got the rose-coloured glasses!

##$$$#$##$#^^& – I know exactly how you fell Enivea. I thought I was smart last time and looked for a cheap frame but it still cost me over $300 after fund rebate BUT – they are so frustrating. They put some antireflective film on the lenses and I can’t keep them clean. I have to buy their cleaner and cloths and no matter what I do I am constantly cleaning them. My old ones I just rinsed in cold water and wiped clean. Their response : we will refill the bottle for $2 each time you need a refill. I’ll be on the watch out next time though. I think we all need to complain more as the service industry has gone down the tube.

  • Enivea replied

I have the antireflective film, and clean mine with a dilution of Eucalyptus oil in a water spray bottle, then rinsed in running water. Your point about complaining is very valid. People need to be kept accountable for their actions.

I’m having to learn the patience lesson again. With a week of very high temperatures, I’ll be needing to wait another week until it’s cool enough for travelling….
