Madame Lionheart

The circus had let her go
without pay without a kind word
so she walked the long road back
to her childhood home

She had grown from a shy
cub girl into a fine proud lioness
slowly perfecting a growl so fierce
that the crowds would
run screaming from the small airless
tents clutching tightly a souvenir snippet
of her exquisite red mane.

now only tumbleweeds and dust
for company
and the long long road ahead…......

to be cont…...????

Her red mane no longer drew in the crowds and they replaced her
with ape girl, can you imagine the humiliation! :)))))
