Iridescent Cloud (or irisation, fragmented Solar Corona). Being close to the sun this type of cloud with uniform size ice crystals is very bright to the eye, blindingly bright at times and mostly white light. But with the appropriate exposure the full spectrum of colors present can be seen.
Nikon F3, 300mm lens, 2000 sec f22 in auto exp. mode, Fuji Velvia film. No filters. Scanned with Imacon Flextight, processed in Adobe PS. These colors are very close to what was seen visually with sunglasses and on the cameras ground glass with the prism removed for viewing safety (an advantage with older film Nikons). Waves of rippling color could be seen as the cloud moved in relation to the sun. The colors were much more ‘electric’ in intensity than can be replicated here or in print.
