7th Feb 2009. Along with other vast areas across Victoria the Yarra Valley looked like a war zone on this day. Gale force winds and the highest temperatures on record (Melb 46.3C, 48C in other areas). Much of the Yarra Valley came under severe ember attack from a fires 15km away at Kinglake and Strathewen. Dozens if not hundreds of spot fires ignited in the Yarra Valley. This photo was taken near Yarra Glen.
It’s such a terrible day in victoria, l hope it pours with rain to night, out thoughts are with
Unfortunately only a few drops. Worse still we’re getting dry lightning strikes sparking more fires. No significant rain forecast but at least cooler temps coming.
ern i was recentlty through all those areas , i noticed how dry things were in the normally moist forests around Marysville, Darren Stokes has been keeping a journal updated all day
Gosh Ern, just been watching it all on the news….how awful…I hope you stay safe…my thoughts are with everyone down there in the southern States, sure hope some rain comes soon!!
Hey Ern I hope that your place remains safe. We are presently fire free in our part of central vic although big one in bendigo area, but have been thru a really big one 24 years ago in this area. I have friends and family in both horsham and the big kilmore/kinglake/whitlesea areas and havent heard from them in quite some time… I send my prayers to all and hope that no more lives are lost. Victoria does not need this tragedy on top of the drought and everything else… Good luck to you and yours…
Ern, this looks like a war zone which is what the situation down there seems to resemble, from all accounts. Hope your place stays safe. It seems ridiculous the extremes in Australia at the moment. It is such a shame that we can’t ship the excess water from up north to Victoria, where you really really really need it at the moment…. Be safe…
I am so saddened to see this.. I was thinking of all the images captured and shared on RB by all you wonderful artists.. Some of those images will never be seen again in our lives… Chuck…
