The Road Less Travelled

Lonely gravel road from Gundy (near Scone) Eastward to Barrington (near Gloucester) in New South Wales. The road winds through the northern rim of the high and beautiful Barrington Tops National Park. Scenery and vegetation varies greatly and includes some farmland, rain forest, and pine plantations. With plenty of photographic opportunities and a steep, narrow, winding gravel road, it’s a long drive!

The wide open spaces are wonderful and with this storm brewing we felt like we could touch the clouds. Worth the trip!

Isn’t there a range of hills called The Bucketts in this area? And mention of Gloucester reminds me that I once won $50 on the pokies in the Gloucester RSL – and we promptly spend part of it by having lunch there playing their golf course! This is a wonderful picture of a great moorland scene. I love it. Peter

Thank you Peter. Yes, Bucketts Way is further East. It’s beautiful country around there. However, having travelled this road last year, it will be a while before we do it again. This section was fine, but in the higher country – well…Scenery was great though. Yes, G. golf course is lovely!

It’s beautiful Col. We actually saw some campers right on top of a plateau area – looked idyllic, but must have been very cold at night. There was a little fresh water spring there too.

Thanks Bente. This is one of my very favourite Aussie places. The air is so pure and the scenery is wonderful and the space…ahhhh!

Thank you. That would be great. ‘Different’ country to NZ; not so compact, but also totally beautiful.

Thanks David. You’ll LOVE it! Am on a 3,000km holiday trip at present, but had a lot of rain. Should be home Saturday; then uploads! Hopefully some Sydney shots tomorrow with some BLUE skies!

Thanks Patricia. This area is a long way from home. We travel 3,500 to 4,000 kms per year into New South Wales to see our siblings and friends. (we’re originally from Sydney) and try to vary the route a bit since we’ve been doing it for 35 years. This wasn’t an easy road, but the scenery was well worth it. em
