    Love this…great shot.

Thanks! At first I thought there was too much stage on the bottom of the photo, but the more I look at it, the more I like it.

  • Peter Hammer

    Peter Hammer

I’d crop most of the boring foreground off and turn it into a square image.

  • EmmaLeigh

    EmmaLeigh

    Hmmm…. I think I’d lose the great lighting effect, wouldn’t I? I can try it and see…

It’s perfect. Don’t change a thing. Did you use the available light here? It is just beautiful!

  • EmmaLeigh

Everything you saw that had a ballerina in it had no flash – just stage lights and in the case of the crying ballerina, we used natural light from the window. We asked the stage dude to give us a spotlight with three angled lights – two from behind and one from in front. My daughter got on a chair to get the angle. Thanks!

    EmmaLeigh

Wow, that is a real compliment! No cropping? Some have mentioned cropping the bottom a bit. Thanks for watching us as well!

  • novamarkina

    novamarkina

I love this photo, and the 2×3 dimensions suit it really well! I love how she’s placed towards the top of the frame. Great lighting too!!

  • novamarkina

    novamarkina

a 1×1 would also look great in a large frame!

  • EmmaLeigh replied

Thanks Novamarkina! We’ve had some comments about cropping, but the cropped version just didn’t cut it (ha ha)! Seriously, I think this one will stand “as is”. Glad you like it in its original form!

There is absolutely nothing boring about this shot….the platform color enhances the light and the dancer! This is just lovely. Nice Work!

  • EmmaLeigh replied

Hey thanks sleepyeyedrar! Sometimes the different camera angles seem to work. Thanks for taking the time to comment. It helps to know what people like!

    Little Rascals...

I have to say that this is one of the best capture I have seen when it comes to a Ballerina.

  • EmmaLeigh replied

Thanks Susanne! My daughter really surprised me with this photo shoot. She did all the posing of the ballerina and dragged a step stool on stage to get the high angle on this one. Not bad for a 11 year old kid! Glad you liked it!

  • Sharona

    Sharona

This is such a beautiful image – and perfect as it is. The lighting is beautiful and I actually think the stage in the foreground leads the eyes to the dancer – so I view it as more an enhancement than a distraction. Very very lovely.

  • EmmaLeigh replied

Thank you Sharona! After a lot of deliberation, we are keeping the photo “as is” vice any cropping. Thanks for your comment – it reinforces our decision. :)
