thanks for all of the kind compliments…its one of my favorite images. this is my oldest friends, daughter. she wasnt in the mood to do her christmas portraits that day…i spent 5 hours at their house doing the craziest things trying to get her to smile…this was about hour 4, (and outfit 20) her mom kept saying, “dont worry, she ALWAYS does this”...but i was determined to get some good shots with or without a smile…

she had on this amazing little dress (the one in teddy bears and chocolate) and just laid down in the middle of the carpet and stared at me…so…i got down there with her!!!

This is the most beautiful photograph I have seen of a young child! I keep coming back to it, hoping I can make some comment that will do it justice – but I’m at a loss for appropriate words (my befuddled ‘flu-infused brain is too tired and ineffective at the moment). thank you ALL so much for you wonderful wonderful comments! im SO flattered. as a constantly self criticizing person…i only wished i had the lighting for this image, so the lower half of her face wouldnt have such a shadow…but as i said, she was pouting, laying on the FLOOR, (not on the setup platform where the lights WERE), having a staring contest with me! so…this (shadow) was a result of her not being where i wanted her to be.

i couldnt understand why this image got such great response until i realized it was on the homepage…im glad you all enjoyed it as much as i did, she is one of my favorite kids, (as ive been photographing her since she was 2 days old) and that makes it extra special for me that it was received well.

again, a million thank yous!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey harley…i used a canon 20d with a canon 50mm or 100mm prime (cant remember which lens, exactly, id have to go back and look thru disks) but for sure my 20d and one of those portrait lenses. :D
