I fought and struggled with this illustration for the good part of a day. I’d been confronting a drawers block and thinking about what I’d do with my life when I came home from the farm. I realised I couldn’t let her get the better of me and I couldn’t give up.
So I gave the girl, Dorothy, a bike and Berlina a chicken companion. After that the colours flowed and the look of stubbornness became a look of determination.
(Dorothy and Berlina are characters from Return to Oz)
